Forbidden Root opened its brewpub on Chicago Avenue Thursday, offering a lovely variety of unique bites and entrees in addition to the beers on tap. By the time I arrived, the space was bustling with enthusiastic locals and there wasn’t a seat in the house.
I was impressed with how beautiful the renovated theater was. I was expecting a basic brewpub and while the space had a modern industrial theme, the historic ceiling was a definitely a centerpiece I’m glad they kept. I couldn’t help but immediately imagine how great the space would be for an event.

Semi-Private or Fully Private Table with Brewery Views
Not only do you have a fun and unique bar in the middle of the space, there’s ample seating and a brewery attached with tours available. I was able to speak with Terry, the GM who confirmed my estimate of about 150 for a dinner, 200 cocktail style. The combination of tables and booths seemed ideal whether you were hosting a wedding or coming in to reconnect with friends on a Friday night. It’s also located right near public transit (the 66 Chicago Bus) and easy to get to. I definitely will be back and recommend you go if you haven’t yet!
