August’s Caterer of the Month is Food For Thought, one of Chicago’s most esteemed catering companies that is featured as a preferred vendor for some of Chicago’s best venues including the Field Museum, The Chicago History Museum, Millennium Park, Cafe Brauer (at Lincoln Park Zoo) and the Chicago Cultural Center. You may be familiar with this name not only for their excellence in catering services but also for their renown cafe concepts. Food for Thought constantly strives to provide unique experiences for all of their events and prides themselves in creating a truly customized dining experience. To put it simply, it’s delicious food and gracious hospitality.
Primary Food Focus/Style
Food For Thought is a custom caterer in every sense. Their primary focus is coming up with YOUR perfect menu. They invest in creative culinary talent dedicated to research and development of trends, menus and concepts which include designing experiential programs, promotions and exciting culinary adventures
Why Food for Thought?
There are multiple reasons why prospective clients choose Food for Thought. They believe their 31 years of experience as a custom caterer has provided them with the knowledge and ability to handle any type of event. Food For Thought continues to evolve, however their core values have remained consistent. They still share their passion to win and celebrate successes, their desire to serve and innovate and the belief that everyone should be treated with respect and integrity remains true. The Culinary team is second to none in Chicago and their staff aspires to set the gold standard in hospitality for the industry. Clients choose Food for Thought because they have faith that every detail of the event is executed perfectly while remaining financially responsible.
Signature Dish/Style of Food
Food for Thought doesn’t claim to only have one “Signature Dish.” They realize that everyone has their own particular tastes and preferences, therefore they work with each client to try and figure out the selections that work best for their menu. However our Executive Chef Nick Sutton produces some extraordinary plates cooking with fresh seasonal ingredients. One of his favorite items from this past year was a Roasted Grouper with Mustard Greens, Shiitake Mushrooms, Cherry Tomatoes, Confit Shallots and a Champagne Reduction Sauce.
Size Range of Groups
Food For Thought is truly a custom caterer. They can provide any type of food service desired, from buffets for breakfast, lunch and dinner, to multi-course plated dinners for thousands of guests. FFT’s delivered division can provide drop off box lunch service for meetings off premise or onsite at an office branch. FFT has the facilities and staff on hand to make any desired catering event happen. If you have any further questions on types of food service they can provide, let them know.
What Distinguishes Food for Thought From the Competition?
While the policies, procedures and systems in place are meant to provide guests with consistently great experiences, they also believe standards are meant to be improved. Nowhere is this more important than in how we treat each other and everyone we encounter. Our service model is simply stated by teaching everyone upon orientation the answers to these questions:
Why do we do what we do?
•We are in the business of making everyone’s day better than before they saw us.
How do we do what we do?
•We accomplish this by treating every interaction we have as a once in a lifetime opportunity to make that moment a special one.
What do we do?
•We help create events that provide great memories, make people’s lives richer and happier and make sure they are well fed!
Knowing why we do what we do and our people provides us the strategic advantage in the marketplace relative to our competitors in the marketplace.
