Catch Me If You Can – Marriott Theatre
Shows run through October19. It is approximately two hours, including one fifteen minute intermission.
This fall, the Marriott Theatre is home to 2011’s exciting musical adaptation of the beloved Catch Me If You Can. Based on the 2002 film by the same name, the show chronicles the chaotic and winding life of the charismatic, shapeshifting Frank Abagnale Jr. It opens in the middle of his explosive demise before careening the audience back into his childhood and through his troubled and fascinating life, introducing us to the various fascinating characters and adventures that shape him along the way.
Directed by Jessica Fisch and expertly choreographed by Deidre Goodwin, the cast is headed by Hamilton star and social media sensation JJ Nieman (though featured the talented Justin Albinder during the September 11 performance). Nieman has drawn fans of all ages to the Marriott’s impressive space. The cast is well-rounded and highly talented, though there are several standouts. Mariah Lyttle’s portrayal of heroine Brenda Strong is exceptional and her ballad, “Fly, Fly Away” is a Broadway-worthy, knock-your-socks-off kind of number that left the audience cheering for nearly a minute after it concluded. Though we do not meet Brenda until Act II, Lyttle brings a depth to the character that grounds the entire production. Brenda’s parents, Roger and Carol Strong, played by James Earl Jones II and Alexis J Roston, are also a joy to watch. Their standout number “(Our) Family Tree” is stellar. Their striking voices, quick chemistry, and mastery of the choreography are a highlight of the show.
The Jeff-Award-winning Nathaniel Stampey is also hugely impressive in his portrayal of Detective Carl Hanratty. He brings something deeply human to the role and breathes unique life into a character that has the potential to become a one-dimensional, foil-to-Frank. The rest of his three-man detective cohort, completed by Marriott veterans Alex Goodrich and Karl Hamilton, are also a joy to watch. The three of them create something truly special and entertaining to watch, striking a very natural and very hilarious dynamic. Goodrich is especially impactful in the little moments he finds and explores in Agent Cod. Catch Me If You Can utilizes its theater-in-the-round space efficiently and effectively. This show has also implemented an elevated, circular screen that frames the ceiling above the stage, projecting media that innovatively enhances the show and provides some fun and surprising visual moments that are a treat to witness.
The Marriott Theatre, as always, offers an impressive combination of convenience and quality in its productions, making it the ideal outing for a wide range of groups and individuals looking for a theater outing that is easy to schedule and fun to attend. The space is ADA accessible, easy to navigate and the adjoining resort also offers dining, spa services, a pool, golfing, varied and plentiful meeting spaces, and on-site lodging for those visiting for an extended time.
For those looking for a convenient meal before the show, Marriott’s Three Embers Restaurant offers “Dinner Theater” with seatings two hours before most productions. Dining packages can be purchased alongside tickets on the Marriott website or by calling the box office at 847.634.0200.
An ASL Interpreted performance will be available on October 16. Marriott Theatre also provides Hearing Loop for patrons with hearing loss. Those looking to book outings for larger groups can contact the Group Sales team at 847.634.0200 or via contact form.
The Marriott Theater has debuted its exciting 2026 season, featuring Little Shop of Horrors, Heartbreak Hotel, A Little Night Music, Come From Away, and Frozen The Musical. Catch Me If You Can will run from August 27 to August 19. The show is approximately two hours, including one fifteen minute intermission.
