The Penthouse Hyde Park
On Chicago’s south side, The Penthouse Hyde Park provides an air of refined elegance that nods to its 1920’s roots. This venue occupies the top floor of the former Piccadilly Hotel & Theater. When the hotel closed, the skyline ballroom sat untouched for decades, but new ownership purchased the Piccadilly in 2015 and reimagined its suites into high-end residential apartments. Their dream was to restore the ballroom to a venue for all to enjoy. Out of respect for Piccadilly’s historical and architectural significance, renovations went to great lengths to embody the best of the 1920s and 2020s. It is the last rooftop ballroom on the south side – all others have been torn down or converted into offices/amenity spaces in residential buildings. The ballroom is inspired by Art Deco with a modern, clean feel, and the intricate crown molding has been restored to its original glory to provide just a touch of character. The space has been outfitted with modern lighting and a sound system to provide a high-end experience, and the space also includes an open-air terrace with views of Chicago skyline and Lake Michigan.

Sable Hotel at Navy Pier
Chicago’s Navy Pier had many lifetimes before becoming the iconic destination many know it as today. Originally a site of comings and goings for cargo ships, it was later leveraged in World Wars I and II as barracks, a Red Cross training center, and even a jail for draft dodgers. Navy Pier’s only hotel gets its name from the USS Sable, a converted passenger steamer docked at Navy Pier during WWII. Along with its partner vessel the USS Wolverine, over 120,000 successful landings took place and an estimated 35,000 pilots qualified on the decks of these ships.
The Sable Hotel is a sophisticated space to gather, featuring unique panoramic views of the city skyline and Lake Michigan. Situated at the end of Navy Pier, the hotel is very much on the water, feeling like both a city and a resort. Because the narrow hotel was molded to fit the layout of the Pier, every single room has a view. And yes, that would include during the summer fireworks.
For visitors, this hotel is ideal, allowing you to do everything Navy Pier has to offer – from classic Chicago pizza to a boat ride – and be comfortably back in your room in no time. This also makes it a one-stop-shop for meetings and events, that creates an easy, “on campus” approach to the very best of Chicago.
