In a press conference this week, Mayor Brandon Johnson was asked whether what Lollapalooza “takes away from the park, and public access to the park” was worth it. Mayor Johnson shared that Lollapalooza brought in over 400,000 people to the City of Chicago, and stated the annual music festival that takes place in Grant Park brings in $20B in economic impact, in addition to thousands of jobs. He also stated that all of the young attendees are “a prelude to what’s to come,” claiming that Chicago is the top destination for college graduates.

“Our city is growing, it’s thriving.”

Lollapalooza not only brings attendees, but the biggest up-and-coming artists to Chicago. For comparison, Bank of America’s Chicago Marathon, which is televised, had over 55k participants, created over 5,000 jobs and generated $756M in economic impact in the City of Chicago.
