Mint Juleps at the Kentucky Derby? Eater Says Otherwise

MintJulep-StrawFor you Kentucky Derby fans, the Mint Julep is the signature cocktail to celebrate with.  However, according to this article from Eater, they haven’t served it there in over 18 years. But that doesn’t mean you still can’t enjoy them.  Here is a recipe so you can continue to drink them anyway!

MINT JULEP RECIPE

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 scant ounce minted simple syrup
  • 2 cups crushed ice
  • 2 ounces bourbon (such as Woodford Reserve)
  • Fresh mint sprig, for garnish

PREPARATION

To highball glass or silver Julep cup, add minted simple syrup, then 1 cup crushed ice, bourbon, and splash of water. Add enough of remaining ice to almost fill glass. Stir well and garnish with mint sprig. Want to have a little extra fun?  Use sparkling water instead.
